These Low Calorie Za’atar Garlic Knots are only made from a 2 ingredient dough, and requires no yeast! That means no proofing time needed, and it is prepared and baked in under 20 minutes. Additionally, there is no added sugar, oil and is high protein.
Garlic Knots in general are super versatile and delicious, they make for a great side dish or are perfect on a brunch of grazing board. Additionally they can be customised to your own liking. Using Za’atar on these garlic knots are a delicious edition, and remind me just of Lebanon!
What is Za’atar?
Za’atar is a Middle Eastern Spice Mix of several herbs like thyme, oregano, sumac, and sesame seeds. You can find it in any middle Eastern Grocer.

Ingredients for Za’atar Garlic Knots
- Self-Rising or Self Raising Flour- I use the Australian Brand Vetta’s smart flour which has double the protein of normal flour
- Greek Yogurt/Plain Yogurt- I use YoPRO High Protein Plain Yoghurt
- Za’atar Mix
- Light Butter
- Fresh Garlic or Garlic Powder
How to make Za’atar Garlic Knots
- Mix yogurt, flour, salt (optional) and sweetener (optional) together- don’t be afraid to use your hands
- Mix until a clean ball forms – if it is too dry add a bit more yogurt or vice versa
- Wrap in cling wrap and let it rest for 5-10 minutes while you prepare the garlic za’atar mix
- Melt butter for 15-30 seconds in the microwave, add the za’atar mix and 1-2 cloves minced garlic or garlic powder and mix well
- Cut the dough into 8 even pieces
- Roll out each piece, and wrap it into a knot shape (refer to video below), and flatten slightly
- Brush each knot with the za’atar mix
- Add to a lined pan
- Airfry at 180c (350f) for 8-10 minutes
- Brush once again with the za’atar mix while still warm

Ingredients
Dough
- 150 grams Self Raising Flour
- 150 grams Plain/Greek Yogurt May need an extra 10-30 grams depending on what type of yogurt used
- 1/8 tsp salt optional
- 1/2 tsp sweetener optional
Za'atar Garlic Mix
- 30 grams light butter or olive oil
- 5 grams Za'atar mix
- 1-2 cloves garlic or 1 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Start by mixing the yogurt, flour, salt and sweetener together- don’t be afraid to use your hands
- Mix until a clean ball forms – if it is too dry add a bit more yogurt or vice versa
- Wrap in cling wrap and let it rest for 5-10 minutes while you prepare the garlic za’atar mix
- Melt butter for 15-30 seconds in the microwave, add the za’atar mix and 1-2 cloves minced garlic, mix well
