High Protein Cheese and Bacon Rolls – A Baker's Delight Copycat

If you love the iconic Cheese & Bacon Rolls from Bakers Delight but want a healthier, high-protein alternative, this recipe is going to be your new obsession. These rolls are made with just 5 ingredients, are lower in calories and fat, and don't require any yeast! They are deliciously cheesy, soft and fluffy!

Ingredients
  

  • 280 g self-raising flour or plain flour + baking powder (2-3 tsp)
  • 270 g plain Greek yogurt low-fat, high-protein
  • 2.5 tsp baking powder omit if using self-raising flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 60 g bacon bits chopped and pre-cooked
  • 60 g light shredded cheese reduced-fat tasty or mozzarella

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F) fan-forced. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder (if using), and salt.
  3. Add in the Greek yogurt and mix until a dough forms. If it’s too sticky, sprinkle in a little extra flour.
  4. Gently knead the dough until smooth. Divide into 6 equal pieces and shape into round rolls.
  5. Place rolls on the tray. Top each with a sprinkle of cheese, then cooked bacon and another sprinkle of cheese.
  6. Bake for 20-22 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
  7. Let them cool slightly and enjoy warm, or store for later!

Baking Tips
  • If the dough feels sticky, add a touch more flour when kneading.
  • Don’t over-knead — a light touch keeps the rolls soft and fluffy.
  • Use pre-cooked and cooled bacon to prevent soggy tops.
  • For extra flavour, you can mix in garlic powder, dried herbs, or smoked paprika into the dough.
